    On December 11, 2024, Singapore Chamber of Commerce Indonesia hosted its last event for the year, an insightful fireside chat with keynote speaker Mr VP Sharma, Founder and CEO of MAP. The session was ably moderated by our own Council Member, Karthik Shetty from Chope Indonesia.

    The discussion threw light on the growing opportunities and challenges in Indonesia’s retail sector. Our speaker shared his deep perspectives on MAP group’s ambitious plans to expand in Southeast Asia.   

    Our heartfelt thanks to all the attendees for actively participating in the discussion and making our year-end event highly successful.

    When to Wait, Watch, & Act – Exploring AI Technology

    Exploring the strategic intersection of business and AI was the focus of our recent event, “When to Wait, Watch, & Act – Exploring AI Technology,” held on August 14th, 2024, at the Ashley Hotel Tanah Abang.

    In collaboration with Singapore Global Network (SGN) and Asia Startup Network (ASN), we gathered industry leaders and decision-makers to discuss how businesses can strategically adopt AI. The conversation centred on identifying the optimal time for AI integration, understanding its impact across industries, and making informed decisions on whether to adopt trending technologies and the need for AI within organisations.

    We extend our deepest gratitude to the experts who provided invaluable insights: Rachel Octavia Sutikno, Chief Marketing Officer of Mobiliari Group; Dwi Cahyo Nugroho, Director Customer Success Microsoft; and Sabam Hutajulu Ph.D, Member of the Board of Directors and Head of the Audit Committee Indonesia AirAsia. The event was expertly moderated by Asandra Salsabila, Founder of Dattora.

    The event culminated in a fruitful networking session over dinner, strengthening ties and fostering future collaborations.

    Singcham Joint Event “H2 Global Market Outlook” with Standard Chartered Bank

    Predicting the future is never easy. However, Singcham members who attended a joint event titled “H2 Global Market Outlook” with Standard Chartered Bank on July 24th received some valuable insights on how financial markets may behave in the second half of the year.

    Mr Fook Hien Yap, Senior Investment Strategist for Standard Chartered Bank shared his views on possible market trends, focusing on equity and bonds markets. His presentation provided participants with investment ideas and how they should structure their portfolios.

    We were also honoured to have Professor Dewi Fortuna Anwar, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at the The Habibie Center grace the event and provide participants with insights on the socio-political landscape following the recent presidential elections. While the new administration under President-elect Prabowo Subianto will mean some new policy directions for the country, she felt that the incoming administration will also provide continuity and forge a large tent coalition with other political parties.

    During the panel discussion, moderated by Singapore Chamber of Commerce Indonesia Chairman Shoeb Kagda, participants were given the opportunity to ask a range of questions including Indonesia’s position vis-a-vis the ongoing US-China economic competition; possible movements in the US equity market based on the upcoming presidential elections; and the future of the US dollar against other currencies.

    Tapping Business Opportunities in Carbon Trading

    Singapore Chamber of Commerce Indonesia recently successfully hosted its latest event focused on ‘Tapping Business Opportunities in Carbon Trading’ to discuss the emerging opportunities in carbon trading given that Indonesia is poised to play a pivotal role due to its large carbon deposits.

    The featured discussion was delivered by three distinguished panelists, each possessing deep expertise in the intricacies of carbon trading, both within Indonesia and globally. The panelists included Nelwin Aldriansyah, Director of Finance PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk; Dharsono Hartono, Chairman Asean Carbon Center of Excellence; and Jeffrey Hendrik, Business Development Director Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX).

    At the event, Dharsono Hartono, Chairman of the ASEAN Carbon Centre of Excellence, discussed the 15-year evolution of the voluntary carbon trading market, which now trades approximately one billion tons of carbon annually, valued at US$2 billion. Pertamina Geothermal Energy’s active involvement, as shared by Finance Director Nelwin Aldriansyah, exemplifies the practical impact of carbon trading. Jeffrey Hendrik, Business Development Director at IDX, sheds light on the regulatory framework governing carbon trading in Indonesia.
