Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, will receive 10 prosecutors on loan from the Attorney General’s Office to help defend its anti-graft cases against pre-trial lawsuits filed by four corruption suspects.

“Around 10 prosecutors are coming on board temporarily. We need the additional prosecutors because the legal bureau is understaffed at 11 people,” Chatarina Girsang, head of the KPK’s legal bureau, said on Friday.

The KPK is preparing for four pretrial motions to be filed in the coming weeks. Former Democratic Party legislator Sutan Bhatoegana; former Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali; former Bangkalan, East Java district chief Fuad Amin; and former Supreme Audit Agency chief Hadi Poernomo are all expected to have their motions heard against the KPK. The KPK has named all four men suspects in different graft cases.

Since a judge at the South Jakarta District Court ruled in favor of Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan’s pretrial motion against the KPK in February, filing a pretrial motion at this district court against the anti-graft agency has become a legal weapon of choice for those whom the KPK has named suspects.

“If we only had to deal with one [pretrial motion], the [staffing level] at the legal bureau would suffice. But we’re facing four almost at the same time, not to mention the Constitutional Court judicial review on March 26,” Chatarina added.
