Garuda Adds Detour to Amsterdam Flight to Avoid Loss
Jakarta. National flag-carrier Garuda Indonesia plans to add a Singapore stop to its Jakarta to Amsterdam flight next month, as Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is incapable of holding the full-load weight of Garuda’s Boeing 777 plane.
Taking a full-tank fuel from Soekarno Hatta for a direct flight would mean that Garuda has to limit the numbers of passengers and cargo, decreasing the airlines revenue, said Garuda Indonesia operational director Novianto Herupratomo on Monday.
“We have made [the flight change] because the north runway is not able to hold the plane’s weight for a direct flight. Later, on arrival in Singapore, we will refuel for Europe,” Novianto said.
