Fire in Bekasi Mayor’s Office Destroys Documents
Jakarta. A fire in the office of the mayor of Bekasi damaged at least nine rooms and destroyed many important state documents on Friday.
The fire was first spotted at 11 a.m. on the second floor of the building. It quickly burned through the office of the Bekasi regional secretary and spread to another room.
Staff were immediately evacuated. Bekasi mayor Rayendra Sukarmadji said the fire was possibly sparked by a short circuit.
“Our temporary suspicion is that it was caused by a short circuit, but let’s wait for the police investigation,” Rayendra said adding that the second floor of the office would be inspected to ensure the structure was still strong enough to support the building.
Ten fire trucks were deployed to the scene and the blaze was brought under control after around two hours.
