    When to Wait, Watch, & Act – Exploring AI Technology

    Exploring the strategic intersection of business and AI was the focus of our recent event, “When to Wait, Watch, & Act – Exploring AI Technology,” held on August 14th, 2024, at the Ashley Hotel Tanah Abang.

    In collaboration with Singapore Global Network (SGN) and Asia Startup Network (ASN), we gathered industry leaders and decision-makers to discuss how businesses can strategically adopt AI. The conversation centred on identifying the optimal time for AI integration, understanding its impact across industries, and making informed decisions on whether to adopt trending technologies and the need for AI within organisations.

    We extend our deepest gratitude to the experts who provided invaluable insights: Rachel Octavia Sutikno, Chief Marketing Officer of Mobiliari Group; Dwi Cahyo Nugroho, Director Customer Success Microsoft; and Sabam Hutajulu Ph.D, Member of the Board of Directors and Head of the Audit Committee Indonesia AirAsia. The event was expertly moderated by Asandra Salsabila, Founder of Dattora.

    The event culminated in a fruitful networking session over dinner, strengthening ties and fostering future collaborations.

    Singcham Joint Event “H2 Global Market Outlook” with Standard Chartered Bank

    Predicting the future is never easy. However, Singcham members who attended a joint event titled “H2 Global Market Outlook” with Standard Chartered Bank on July 24th received some valuable insights on how financial markets may behave in the second half of the year.

    Mr Fook Hien Yap, Senior Investment Strategist for Standard Chartered Bank shared his views on possible market trends, focusing on equity and bonds markets. His presentation provided participants with investment ideas and how they should structure their portfolios.

    We were also honoured to have Professor Dewi Fortuna Anwar, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at the The Habibie Center grace the event and provide participants with insights on the socio-political landscape following the recent presidential elections. While the new administration under President-elect Prabowo Subianto will mean some new policy directions for the country, she felt that the incoming administration will also provide continuity and forge a large tent coalition with other political parties.

    During the panel discussion, moderated by Singapore Chamber of Commerce Indonesia Chairman Shoeb Kagda, participants were given the opportunity to ask a range of questions including Indonesia’s position vis-a-vis the ongoing US-China economic competition; possible movements in the US equity market based on the upcoming presidential elections; and the future of the US dollar against other currencies.

    Tapping Business Opportunities in Carbon Trading

    Singapore Chamber of Commerce Indonesia recently successfully hosted its latest event focused on ‘Tapping Business Opportunities in Carbon Trading’ to discuss the emerging opportunities in carbon trading given that Indonesia is poised to play a pivotal role due to its large carbon deposits.

    The featured discussion was delivered by three distinguished panelists, each possessing deep expertise in the intricacies of carbon trading, both within Indonesia and globally. The panelists included Nelwin Aldriansyah, Director of Finance PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk; Dharsono Hartono, Chairman Asean Carbon Center of Excellence; and Jeffrey Hendrik, Business Development Director Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX).

    At the event, Dharsono Hartono, Chairman of the ASEAN Carbon Centre of Excellence, discussed the 15-year evolution of the voluntary carbon trading market, which now trades approximately one billion tons of carbon annually, valued at US$2 billion. Pertamina Geothermal Energy’s active involvement, as shared by Finance Director Nelwin Aldriansyah, exemplifies the practical impact of carbon trading. Jeffrey Hendrik, Business Development Director at IDX, sheds light on the regulatory framework governing carbon trading in Indonesia.

    On 15 November 2023, the ‘EV Outlook for Indonesia: Future Reality or Myth’ embarked on a comprehensive exploration of the dynamic realm of electric vehicles (EVs) in Indonesia. Our speakers led our audience on a journey of in-depth investigation into the present landscape of EV advancement in Indonesia, encompassing government policies, automotive industry insights, and consumer perspectives.

    A wonderful Q&A session lasting nearly an hour ignited the room, as our diverse audience, representing a wide spectrum of industries, posed questions, offered comments, and provided feedback, solidifying the fervent interest in this topic.

    The topic presentation was given by Nicolas Meyer, Managing Director & Partner Boston Consulting Group (BCG). The event focused on “Electric Vehicles in Indonesia’ and included a discussion panel with Nicolas and three other leading representatives from the automotive industry, Kukuh Kumara, Secretary General Gaikindo; Aditya Siregar, Media Director Cintamobil.com; and last but not least Joel CY Chang, Group CEO Charged Indonesia. The panel was moderated by our own Singapore Chamber of Commerce Indonesia council member Damien Lim.

    Members of Singcham banded together to form a multi generational football team. Despite many showing up and meeting for the first time off the pitch, when it came to kick off, everyone seemed like they have known and played together for a long time.

    Despite the opponents youth and vigor, the Singcham football team played with tenacity in a nailbiting neck to neck match with a final score that reflected both teams efforts, 13 – 13.

    It was certainly the start of many more friendly matches that Singcham will organize in the future. Welcoming all Singaporeans based in Jakarta who want to participate in Fun, Friendship and Football!

Sellers are still allowed to promote their products during live sessions, but viewers can no longer purchase them directly unlike before.     This topic fell perfectly in line with our very first event, part of the ‘Kopitiam Conversations’ series organised by Singapore Chamber of Commerce Indonesia.

    Moderated by Shoeb Kagda, Chairperson, SCCI, the event focused around ‘Being a Digital Influencer’ and had on the panel, two leading Indonesian digital influencers, Tommy Surya Teja and Reynaldi Francois. It was engaging to see both speakers sharing about their journey and thanks to a very interactive audience that ensured the questions kept coming! There couldn’t have been a better timing for this topic in Indonesia!

    Furthermore, everyone had the chance to network and develop a deeper understanding regarding the latest developments in the Indonesian digital market and interact with Singaporean firms with presence in Indonesia.

The lunch talk was also a game changer in that it was the first hybrid event hosted by the Singapore Chamber of Commerce Indonesia where we had a select group of members in the room and many joined online.
