Jakarta. Indonesia’s inflation accelerated in April due to higher fuel and food prices.

The consumer price index rose 6.79 percent year-on-year in April, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported on Monday. That was higher than the 6.38 percent increase in March.

The annualized core inflation, which excludes government-administered prices like fuel prices and volatile food prices, was unchanged at 5.04 percent.

The price of Premium, the low-octane gasoline widely used by the public, has been gradually rising in the past two months, from Rp 6,600 a liter to Rp 7,400.

Meanwhile, costs for food — including rice, which is the staple for many Indonesians — have also risen gradually since early this year, partly on concerns over possible supply shortages.
