Bangka-Belitung Police Seize Illegal Tin Shipment
Jakarta. Police in Bangka-Belitung on Sunday intercepted an illegal shipment of tin to Tangerang at the Pangkalbalam seaport in Pangkalpinang.
“Police officers confiscated 36 tin blocks worth Rp 120 million [$9,250] and 2 tons of tin slag worth Rp 50 million in a truck. None of the tin loaded in the truck had any legal documentation,” Bangka-Belitung Police spokesman, Adj. Sr. Comr. Abdul Munim told newsportal Tempo.co on Monday.
Police also nabbed the truck driver, Leo Chandra, and brought him in for questioning.
Leo could face up to 10 years in jail or a Rp 10 billion fine if he is proven guilty of violating the 2009 law of mineral and coal mining, Abdul said.
The tin blocks, allegedly owned by a man identified by police only as P., came from Paritenam in Pangkalpinang, while the tin slag, whose alleged owner was identified as F., came from Pancur, also in Pangkalpinang.
