Bank Mandiri seeks new funds up to Rp10t in 2016
Director of Finance and Strategy in BMRI (Bank Mandiri), Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, has stated that the bank will seek additional long-term funding which will be used primarily to fund projects in the infrastructure sector. Relying on third-party deposit collection will not be enough and they are of short-term nature. The options available to the bank are either bilateral lending or public issuance. The first choice of bilateral lending is the preferred choice (also the cheaper choice) compared with the public issuance market that is not conducive at the moment. In 2015, BMRI also received a US$1b loan facility from China Development Bank (the loan amounts to less than 2% of the bank’s total liabilities as of 9M15).
