Majority of the banks have decided not to aggressively expand the number of automatic teller machines (ATM) in order to save operational expenses. In 2015, total ATMs in the country amounted to 97,845. According to BBRI, this year the bank will add 1,500 machines (compared with a total of 20,876 ATMs as of Mar 16). BBCA (Bank Central Asia) will add 500 ATMs this year (total units owned as of Mar 16: 17,000).
