Explosion in Tanah Abang Injures Four
Jakarta. At least four people were injured in an explosion in Tanang Abang, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Jakarta Police spokesman Comr. Martinus Sitompul said the explosion happened at around 3 p.m. on vacant land near the Block G of Tanah Abang market.
“The explosion is still being investigated and officers are still at the scene, let’s just wait for the investigation,” Martinus said.
The four people injured have been taken to Pelni hospital in Petamburan.
The police’s explosives unit and anti-terror officers were deployed to the scene, although some witnesses reported the blast could have been caused by a gas explosion.
Last month a densely populated neighborhood in Tanah Abang was razed by a fire, killing an 18-year-old man. The fire also destroyed over 200 homes and displaced over 3,000 people.
