Kalla: It Is Time to Boost Fisheries Productivity
Jakarta. Vice President Jusuf Kalla has called on all stakeholders to boost domestic fisheries productivity at the launching of the so-called Coverage, Synergy and Guideline Program (Jaring).
The initiative aims to finance growth in the maritime and fisheries sector and is supported by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
“It is high time for us to increase productivity in fisheries. We have moved forward against illegal fishing and will continue to guard against illegal fishing in Indonesian waters,” Kalla said on Monday during the initiative’s inauguration at Boddia beach in South Sulawesi’s Takalar district.
Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti, OJK Chief Commissioner Muliaman Hadad, South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo and Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) Head Suryo Bambang Sulisto attended the inauguration of the initiative that is known in Indonesian as Program Jangkau, Sinergi dan Guideline (Jaring).
The financial services sector is expected to support efforts to boost productivity in domestic fisheries by providing loans to fisheries businesses, especially to traditional fishermen and small and medium enterprises.
Meanwhile, Susi said the launch was another boost to support efforts at eradicating illegal fishing.
