Matahari Department Store Opens 139th Outlet
Jakarta. Indonesia’s biggest fashion retailer Matahari Departement Store, or MDS, has opened its 139th outlet in in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, as the company continues to expand its outlets across the archipelago.
The new outlet covers 7,200 squared meters in Lombok Epicentrum Mall on Jalan Sriwijaya, Mataram.
Miranti Hadisusilo, corporate secretary and legal director of the listed retailer, said MDS is committed to expanding across Indonesia, from Banda Aceh to Jayapura in Papua.
“This is part of Matahari’s expansion plan in many cities this year and the Lombok outlet is the 15th store in the Bali and Kalimantan area,” she said in the statement on Tuesday.
The Lombok outlet is the eighth store the retailer has opened in 2015 after Singkawang in West Kalimantan, Baubau in Southeast Sulawesi, Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara, Karawang in Banten, Jogjakarta, Pasaraya Manggarai in Central Jakarta and Pasaraya Blok M in South Jakarta.
MDS was established 56 years ago and currently operates 139 stores in 66 cities in Indonesia. The company, listed in the Indonesia Stock Exchange under stock code LPPF, is the biggest retailer in Indonesia.
The company recently received Living Legend Companies Award 2015 from Warta Ekonomi Magazine for surviving in the industry for more than 50 years. Following the award, on June 12 MDS also received the Business Indonesia Award from the Indonesian Achievement Award Foundation as a company providing the best service.
