    5.6m passengers passed trough Changi Airport, increase 6.9%

    hangi Airport handled 5.57 million passenger movements in June 2018, a 6.9 per cent year-on-year increase, Changi Airport Group (CAG) said on Tuesday (Jul 24).

    In terms of landings and takeoffs, there were 31,870 aircraft movements in June, 3.1 per cent higher than the same period last year.

    Traffic between Singapore and Europe grew 19 per cent in June; and among Changi’s top 10 markets, Indonesia and Japan were the fastest growing, boosted by travel to Denpasar and Tokyo.

    Other routes to cities like London, Melbourne, Mumbai and Shanghai also registered a double digit growth, said CAG.

    Amid these figures, LOT Polish Airlines introduced one more Singapore-Warsaw connection, bringing the total number of weekly services to four. This comes after the new Singapore-Warsaw connection was introduced in May.

    Additionally, for the first half of the year, Changi Airport recorded 32.1 million passenger movements, 5.5 per cent higher than the same period last year.

    Indonesian government to build 10 new airports

    Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has said that the government plans to develop 10 new airports to support the development of tourism in the country.

    He said the government was discussing financial resources for the planned projects.

    “The valuation process is being discussed by the Finance Ministry,” Budi said in Jakarta on Wednesday as reported by kompas.com.

    Airports would be developed in Lampung, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara, Central Kalimantan, Bangka Belitung and North Sumatra, he said.

    Tjilik Riwut Airport in Central Kalimantan was slated for completion this year, Budi said, adding that the the project had secured an investment of Rp 400 billion (US$27 million).

    257 bottles of liquor abandoned in Soekarno-Hatta Airport toilet

    A confirmed total of 257 bottles of liquor kept in 26 suitcases were found at a toilet in Terminal 2 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten.

    It is suspected that the owners of the bottles arrived at the airport on Sunday night on board a Lion Air Singapore-Jakarta flight, according to a statement made by the airport’s customs and excise official Hengky to tribunnews.com on Tuesday.

    “We received a report from the Avsec [aviation security] that there were bags left behind that contained 257 bottles of liquor.” Hengky said, adding that the authorities suspected the perpetrators intentionally chose the night flight from Singapore to mislead officers. The perpetrators, however, seemed to have decided to abandon the bottles, as the officers continued to vigilantly watch the airport.

    The perpetrators have yet to be found, Hengky said.
