Three Chinese Nationals Arrested in Jakarta Could Face Death Over Meth Charges
Jakarta. Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency, or BNN, on Friday arrested an Indonesian man and three Hong Kong nationals in front of the Mercure Hotel on Jalan Hayam Wuruk in West Jakarta on charges of trafficking in crystal methamphetamine.
“The three men from Hong Kong, identified only as K.F.H, Y.W.B, and K.C.Y held Chinese passports,” BNN spokesman Sr. Cmr. Slamet Pribadi told Indonesian news website Tempo.co on Saturday.
The BNN said it found three kilograms of methamphetamine on making the arrests. But the agency conducted a further investigation and raided an apartment at the nearby Mediterania apartments.
“We found 44 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine at the apartment room,” Slamet said.
The four suspects were being questioned and, if found guilty of violating the 2009 narcotics law, could face the death penalty.
