His career as a journalist and editor in Asia began in the Philippines as a radio correspondent for NBC News in the 1980s. He was later the Executive Editor of the Hong Kong Standard and the Editor-in-Chief of the JoongAng Daily in Seoul. He has consulted for numerous development agencies and private companies.
