The Gerindra, PKS and PAN parties officially signed Prabowo’s candidacy as presidential and Sandi candidate as vice president in the 2019 Indonesian presidential election. This decision indicates that the coalition contains only three parties. Demokrat Party which had been in this coalition has not yet determined its position.

Prabowo Subianto said Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno was willing to resign as a cadre of the Gerindra Party after being officially appointed as a vice presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election.

Prabowo is a retired general. With its declaration in the 2019 presidential election, Prabowo has been named as a presidential candidate three times. Prabowo had a military career for 28 years before finally going into business and politics. In the election five years ago, Prabowo lost to Joko Widodo.

Meanwhile, Sandiaga Uno is a businessman. Sandiaga is known for providing a number of small companies that can transform into big ones. Since 2009, Sandiaga has been included in the list of 50 richest people in Indonesia by Forbes magazine. His political career reached a peak when he succeeded to become Jakarta’s deputy governor in the 2017 elections.

Prabowo and Sandiaga will officially register as candidates on Friday, 10 August 2018. Registration of candidates marks the start of the 2019 presidential election series.
